STUDIO EXPERIENCE

Although I've been to several of the Yoga locations listed in the Directory, a goal I have is to visit as many as I can, paying respect to and delighting in the studios that make up our Yogic community here in this area of Washington. Join me, as I pop in for a class or workshop at each and share my journey there.

In this fast paced world of multi-tasking, electronic distractions and a needless sense of urgency, it's essential to slow down. Unfortunately, many of us have forgotten how to do just that; how to breathe fully and steadily and, moreover, how to relax our bodies. Restorative Yoga is an extremely helpful tool for that.

This month I wandered out to the Chiropractic Lifestyle Center in Bremerton for a Restorative Yoga class led by last month's Teacher Reveal, Kathleen Sheets of KSheets Yoga. The location was easy to find and crisp and bright inside. The staff is welcoming and the lightness of mood gives you the feeling you could hangout for a bit. Or maybe it was the plentiful lending library chalked full of healthful books, the tea center, or the place set for children to happily color their hearts away.

A quick sign-in and I was ready to head into the studio space, lay my mat and gather my props. If you've never done Restorative Yoga before, be prepared for a bounty of props to swim in your space.

Soon, we were all dropping out of our minds and into our bodies with a nurturing combination of postures like a gentle heart opener, hip opener, supported twists and legs up the wall before slipping into our choice of svasana posture. Each time a pose was over, I could hardly believe it, and found it harder to believe 75 whole minutes had passed when class was over. There's a strange phenomenon that happens in such a deep, restful state. One in which time and space cease to exist in our normal standard and we are transported elsewhere.

Feeling relaxed and light at the completion of the class, we put our props away in the neatly organized closet, rolled up our mats and headed out the door. The day was seemingly a bit cheerier than before I'd laid my cares to rest - and left them there - on the floor of CLC.

Chiropractic LIfestyle Center offers Restorative Yoga the 2nd and 4th Tuesday each month at 5:30-6:45pm and Alignment based, mixed levels Yoga Mondays and Wednesdays 10:30-11:30am. There is also a Breath Practice Series to keep your eye out for. KSheets Yoga will also be hosting an upcoming Fall retreat - check it out!
