YOGA - WEST OF THE NARROWS
STUDIO EXPERIENCES
There's no better way to grow your practice and have fun connecting with your Yogi peers than heading to local classes and events! Join me as I pay respect to and delight in the studios that make up our Yogic community here in this area of Washington, and share the details of my journey there.
Having discovered the magic of sound bowls and their healing and transformative nature last year, I was prepared for another beautiful experience as I ventured out to Sequim for their Autumn Equinox Sound Spa Saturday. As life loves to deliver surprises, this was no exception to the rule. A serene drive at dusk on a clear day was the prelude to my experience. I arrived for the first time ever to this studio (as I live a ways away) and was excited to 'put a face to the name' of this studio I had been sharing the events of for some time now.
An open door and a welcoming entrance drew a friend and myself in. The light of Sophia (pronounced Sof-eye-uh) as well as her plentiful array of crystal bowls in all shapes and sizes set the tone of upcoming bliss. Mats laid out with blankets & chairs to sit were offered. I chose a mat so I may lay down when the time came. We introduced ourselves and found our space to claim for the next 75 minutes.
A meditation to commence and we were on our way, bowls singing and nourishing every cell of my being. But that was not where the singing ended. Out of nowhere (or seemingly so, as I had an eyemask laid over my eyes) came the most precious and other-worldly voice. 'When You Wish Upon a Star' sang by Sophia in merriment with the bowls was enchanting. Intermittently throughout the session, her singing sprinkled and flavored the event not only in person, but with her own CD of songs written and performed by Sophia.
Just as you would begin to drift off consciously, her uplifting and heartfelt music would bring you back, only to let you slip away again to the sound of the bowls alone. The energy ebbed and flowed as did emotions. In the end, we were left with a postive message; to spread love, to be kind and compassionate in order to help heal this world. Thank you, Sophia!
